We welcome you to Hilltops, rural accommodation with a difference, with stunning views and a large private pool.

Why are we different from the usual B & B?  We want you to enjoy your break and also reduce your costs!  The cost of eating in restaurants every night mounts up, even at our low local prices.  So, we encourage you to buy your own food, bring it back to Hilltops, then prepare and cook it on our wide selection of outside cooking facilities.  Not only does it reduce your costs but also good fun if a few people are doing the same.  To reduce your costs even further please see our Special Offer in Tariffs & Services.

Hilltops, now owned by Howard and Muriel, is located in the small pueblo of La Palmera, near Calasparra in the beautiful Northwest region of Murcia.  If you are looking to buy a property in the area, want to enjoy a rural retreat for a few days or holiday here, it is a great location. However long you stay, we will welcome you, look after you and ensure you enjoy your visit.  We live in the finca and are on hand for any questions, advice or just for a drink and a chat.

We are located on the top of a hill overlooking the small River Argos below, the fruit orchards and the mountain ranges of the Sierra del Puerta and Sierra del Cerezo.  With amazing wide panoramic views of the mountain ranges you will enjoy incredible sunsets in some of the most spectacular countryside in southern Spain.

All our bedrooms have a good sized en-suite bathroom and with two double rooms and two twin rooms we are happy to accommodate any number of people from one person up to a party of eight.  All bedrooms are on the first floor with a separate entrance.  We have a lounge area you are welcome to use during your stay.
BREAKFAST

Continental breakfast is included in our tariff or we can provide a cooked breakfast for a small additional charge.  You may take your breakfast outside and enjoy the wonderful views from the terraces, especially in the warm summer months, which brings us neatly onto the climate you can expect.

CLIMATE

With total average rainfall being only about 7” this is a dry area that enjoys an annual average temperature of 20°C with over 320 sunny days per year.  Unlike the coastal areas that can be quite humid, this area has a dry heat.  Spring being a particularly lovely time of the year.
THIS PROPERTY IS FOR SALE - With Corvera International Airport due to open later this year and the building of the Paramount Theme Park in Alhama, property prices in the Murcia region are expected to rise substantially.  See "Property Details" page.

Daytime temperatures are mid 20s and the plethora of wild flowers is amazing.  Hilltops, being high, benefits from the cooling breezes in the summer.  Going into September and October the temperatures start to drop and are similar to the spring temperatures.

After that relaxing breakfast you may then wish to decide whether to have a quiet, peaceful day unwinding or discover the local area, there are plenty of choices of things to do!  The simplest one is to relax around the pool and enjoy the almost guaranteed sun.

THE POOL

You are invited to use the private walled large salt-water swimming pool that has a Jacuzzi, sun-loungers, sun umbrellas, seating and a bar serving drinks and snacks.

Or you may decide to discover the local area of North West Murcia with its very varied landscape of mountains, valleys, lakes & reservoirs, forests, orchards of soft fruits, olives, citrus fruits and various flora and fauna.

We are not isolated but have beautiful rural surroundings with clean mountain air - a place to make the most of what nature has to offer.  Just across the road horse riding is available for all, from the beginner to the experienced rider wanting to go out for a few hours.  A true haven for walkers, climbers, bird watchers (you may see eagles from Hilltops), fishermen (course and trout), photographers, artists etc.  The winding, excellent mountain roads make this area ideal for cyclists and bikers.  Also available are white water canoeing, fishing, go-karting, kayaking and more...

About an hour away there is golf, quad biking, gliding, hang gliding, two hydrotherapy spas/hot springs and rock climbing.

Whilst we welcome children we must be honest and say there may not be a lot that would interest them in this area unless they appreciate the real Spain.  We are a million miles away, well actually only about 70 miles (an hour and a quarter’s drive), from the busy touristy coastal resorts but we can tell you about the quieter sandy beaches!

TOWNS & VILLAGES

Everywhere mentioned on this site is within easy reach, most places are only a few miles away and nowhere more than one hour´s drive.

Calasparra, our nearest town is only about a  five minute drive away.  It is typical rural Spanish market town dependent on its traditional agricultural economy and famous for its rice.  Use the links or go to our Local Area page for further information.

Valentin, less than 2 miles away, is a small village with just a few shops, a bank, three bars/restaurants where one may eat excellent food at very reasonable prices.

Larger nearby towns well worth exploring are Cehegin and Caravaca de la Cruz, both 10 to 12 miles.  Going a little further afield is the busy regional capital of Murcia and the historic port of Cartagena, about an hour and an hour and a half drive respectively.

Summer in this area is all about fiestas with virtually every town and village celebrating their own and partying Spanish style late into the night.

EATING OUT

Nearly all local restaurants offer very good value, especially at lunch time where three courses, with wine or beer, costs between 8 and 10 euros.  You may prefer to just have a lighter lunch of a few tapas and a glass of the excellent local wine.  In the evening prices vary more but we can recommend where you can get an excellent dinner, with drinks, for between 12 to 15 euros!

You may not want to eat in a restaurant every evening and would perhaps rather take advantage of the self-catering facilities we offer.

We aim to provide you with a personalised, friendly service.  Therefore, if you have any further questions about your stay or need any assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.
